OUR MISSION
Since 1925, The Braumart has served as a historic theater and community entertainment venue in Downtown Iron Mountain. Our mission is to preserve and revitalize this historic landmark while providing live music, movies, performing arts, cultural events, and community experiences for Dickinson County and the Upper Peninsula. Through restoration, entertainment, and community involvement, The Braumart continues to support local arts, tourism, and the future of downtown Iron Mountain.
Friends of The Braumart’s goals include:
Preserving a Historic Iron Mountain Landmark
Supporting Arts & Entertainment in the Upper Peninsula
Building Community Through Live Events
Restoring The Braumart for Future Generations
Preserving the Braumart:
The Friends of the Braumart is preserving the historic Braumart Theatre through a phased redevelopment plan aimed at modernizing the century-old facility while maintaining its historic integrity. In April 2026, we at The Friend’s of The Braumart were awarded a $43,100 grant from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council to support current renovation efforts.
Supporting Arts & Entertainment in the Upper Peninsula:
The Braumart supports local businesses by hosting national touring acts which brings tourism, supporting local music, and educational youth workshops like the Missoula Children's Theatre.
Building community through live events in Iron Mountain:
The Braumart in Iron Mountain, MI, builds community by acting as a central cultural hub for Dickinson County, hosting live music, films, and performances that foster local engagement. As a nearly 100-year-old landmark, it revitalizes the downtown area by providing shared experiences, supporting local artists, and encouraging foot traffic that boosts nearby businesses.
Restoring The Braumart:
The restoration focuses on maintaining historic integrity while adding modern technology and accessibility.
Stage and Performance Space: Extending the stage by approximately 30 to 40 feet into the auditorium to accommodate larger productions, dance groups, and live music.
Technical Upgrades: Installation of new LED lighting systems, professional stage rigging, and a modern movie screen.
Interior Infrastructure: Work includes electrical upgrades, HVAC installation, and floor restoration.
Accessibility: Future plans include adding an elevator connecting the basement to the second level and expanding restroom access.
